Obituary for Mildred V. Giltner

Mildred V. Giltner, age 93, of Belleville, formerly of O'Fallon, died at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville with her daughters by her side.

She was born April 5, 1921 in East St. Louis, Illinois, the daughter of the late Christopher and Sophie (Powers Touchette) DeMange. She married Bernard J. Giltner, MSGT, RET., April 22, 1944 in Centreville, Illinois. He preceded her in death October 28, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Canty-O'Toole; a son-in-law, Ralph (Sonny) A. Canty; and 3 sisters: Mary Huskey, Catherine Buese, and Rita Jarvis-Siekman. She is survived by 2 daughters: Martha Allen of Marietta, GA, and Janice Eileen (Michael) Brutto of Belleville; 5 grandchildren: Christopher (Lois) Allen of Alpharetta, GA, Bernard Allen of Casper, WY, Thomas Allen of Casper, WY, Jason Brutto of Belleville and Nathan Brutto of Belleville; 7 great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Conrad Allen, Mia Pavone, Zachary Brutto-Hatzenbuehler, Timothy , Samuel and Addison Brutto; a sister, Cecelia Turner of Belleville; a brother, Vincent (Shirley) DeMange of East St. Louis; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Giltner was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church in O'Fallon.

Mildred's wishes were to be cremated with no visitation, funeral service or floral tributes. A private interment will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

The family extends their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Midwest Rehabilitation and Respiratory Center for her care, and to the staff at Memorial Hospital South and Heartland Hospice for their care and compassion to Mildred and her daughters.
