Alvin H. "Abbie" Albers, age 94, of Germantown, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese, IL. He was born March 28, 1920 in Germantown, the son of the late Herman and Elizabeth (Robke) Albers. He married Henrietta Spihlmann October 7, 1947 in Germantown. She survives. Also surviving are three children: Doris (Clarence) Middendorff of New Baden, Michael "Mick" (Geralyn) Albers of Germantown and Leonard "Leo" (Vicki) Albers of Winton, CA; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one brother, Erwin "Tubby" (Lorene "Blondie") Albers of Aviston; one son-in-law, Joseph W. Kohrmann of Germantown; two sisters-in-law: Rosie Spihlmann of Damiansville and Dorothy (the late Jim) Wieman of Maryville; and three step-sisters-in-law: Bernice Kniepmann of Breese, Mary Ann (Arnie) Heimann of Germantown and Jane Thoele of Germantown. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Kohrmann; two sisters: Dorothy Haukap and Cecilia Duing; one brother, August Albers; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Emelia (George) Heimann, Raymond (Ann) Spihlmann, Leo (Lucille) Spihlmann, Bernard (Marie) Spihlmann, Richard Spihlmann, Marie (Norbert) Albers and Clarence Spihlmann; and his step-sisters and brothers-in-law: Alvin (Maryann) Thoele, Walter (Ella Mae) Thoele, Edward Thoele and Cornelius Kniepmann.

Mr. Albers worked at Scott Air Force Base as a warehousman. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown and Germantown American Legion Post 325. He had been the oldest living member of the Germantown American Legion. He was a US Army veteran of WW II, receiving two Purple Hearts. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown; and from 8-9:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the church. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, with Rev. James Buerster officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Boniface Cemetery Fund or to Shriner's Hospital for Children.
