Obituary for Cecelia F. "Cec" Montroy

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Cecelia Frances Montroy passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by friends on the morning of December 7th, 2020. She had battled cancer since July of this year.

Cecelia was born on June 2nd, 1951 to Herbert and Anna (Kovalcin) Montroy in Chester, IL. She is survived by her cousins - the Reverend John Kovalcin, Esther Foster, Lillian Marshall, Robert Graff, many other cousins, friends, neighbors and coworkers. She was the beloved “aunt” to so many of her friend’s children.

Cec was proud of her Chester roots. She would always tell anyone who didn't know that Chester was famous as the "Hometown of Popeye" and the location of Menard Penitentiary.

Cecelia was a dedicated registered nurse graduating from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in 1973. She had a varied nursing career. Most of her career was spent at Barnes Jewish Hospital. She spent 23 years in the Acute Dialysis Unit and 11 years in Radiation Oncology. She retired in the spring of 2015.

Cecelia loved spending time with her friends, neighbors and cousins. She loved her cat Sophie. She enjoyed traveling near and far!

Cecelia's beautiful smile, her genuine concern for those around her, her inquisitive nature and her sense of humor will be missed by so many! Words cannot express the beauty that was Cecelia!

As soon as it is safe to gather, Cecelia's life will be celebrated with a memorial Mass at St Mary's Catholic Church in Chester, IL. It will be followed by interment of her cremains with her parents in St. Mary’s cemetery. A luncheon will be planned so that we can celebrate together as was her wish.

Donations in Cecelia's memory may be made to the St. Louis Peregrine Society, 2343 Hampton Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63139.
