Obituary for Clarence B. "Fats" Middendorff

Clarence B. “Fats” Middendorff, age 73, of New Baden, died Friday, November 5, 2021 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born December 29, 1947 in New Baden, the son of the late William and Frances (Kassen) Middendorff. He married Doris Albers November 28, 1975. She survives.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two children: Chad (Amanda) Middendorff of Breese and Loni (special friend Carl Diesen) Middendorff of Germantown; four grandchildren: Fisher and Graci Bast and Catherine and Wyatt Middendorff; two siblings: Marvin (Catherine) Middendorff of Trenton and Jeanette (Dennis) Rickhoff of Albers; and his mother-in-law, Henrietta Albers of Germantown.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings: Marcellus Middendorff and Mary Huber; and his father-in-law, Alvin "Abbie" Albers.

Fats was a retired auto body repairman where he spent most of his life restoring classic cars. He was a very talented artist and enjoyed putting puzzles together.

But what Fats loved most was spending time with his family & friends. No one made him smile more than his grandkids. He was an avid hunter & fisherman where he spent countless hours at his clubhouse with his lifelong best friend Russell. BBQ, beer, family, friends, and stories! Oh the stories….no one told them better!!

A celebration of life will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Fuehne’s Tavern in Damiansville.
