Obituary for David J. "Grease" Beckemeyer
David J. “Grease” Beckemeyer, age 80, of Beckemeyer, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at his residence.
He was born December 18, 1938 in Beckemeyer, the son of the late Vincent and Clara (VanDorn) Beckemeyer. He married Mary Hellige November 24, 1960 in Breese. She survives. Also surviving are three children: Lisa (Dale) Wessel of Carlyle, Dan (Lori) Beckemeyer of Breese, IL, and Doug (Julie) Beckemeyer, also of Breese; eight grandchildren: Jessica (Kevin) Bachesta, Abbey (Joel) McIntyre, Arielle Beckemeyer, Audra Beckemeyer, Aunna (fiancé Trevor Richards) Beckemeyer, Chloe (friend Brendan Wilken) Beckemeyer, Maya Beckemeyer and Grant Beckemeyer; two great-grandchildren: Corbin Willis and Dylan Willis, and two brothers-in-law: Ed Koopman and Rich (Peggy) Hellige.
Besides his parents, Mr. Beckemeyer was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Koopman.
David was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Beckemeyer, the Breese Knights of Columbus and the Mater Dei Fathers and Friends. He was a life-long farmer, and thoroughly enjoyed Mater Dei basketball and football games. He was also an avid fan of Clinton County League baseball.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Beckemeyer, followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. with Rev. Chuck Tuttle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, concrete plaques, wind chimes and other items, memorials may be given to Mater Dei High School.
