Obituary for David B. Hoopes

David B. Hoopes, age 75, of Summerfield, died at 5:16 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon.

He was born April 7, 1947 in Bucyrus, OH, the son of the late William and Olga (Green) Hoopes. He married Andrea L. Kinzel April 10, 1982. She preceded him in death April 21, 2015.

Dave was a person that never met a stranger. He could tell stories for days, and none were complete without his unique unforgettable laugh. He loved his grandkids and kids the most, and loved to tell everyone about them. He was an avid McKendree Bearcats fan, and could be found in the stands at most sporting events. He loved getting to know the players and families. Dave enjoyed watching all sports and telling stories about his days on the fields and courts. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force and a proud Bearcat Alum. He loved to take a good road trip to go to his class reunions and visit family. He loved making spaghetti for everyone who came around, going fishing, and cutting grass. He enjoyed his Tuesday movie day and was quick to share a pun.

-Dad always thought the last thing he needed was a burial plot. He was right.

Dave made an imprint on everyone he met. He is unforgettable and will be missed tremendously.
Surviving are four children: Ashley (Barry) Rench-Ingersoll of Bethalto, IL, Brandi (Greg Kadell) Hoopes of Summerfield, David (Jenny Mayer) Ashcraft of Hamilton Square, NJ and Kristine (Gorm Brunso) Ashcraft of Burien, WA; three grandchildren: Alijah and Rheagan Rench and Max Offt; one sister, Ola (the late Joe) Pryor of Marion, OH; one niece and one nephew Lola and Alan Pryor, also of Marion, OH; his dog Dudley; and many, many friends.

Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Hoopes was preceded in death by two siblings: Wilma Hoopes and Ralph Hoopes.

Interment of his ashes will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2023 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Memorial contributions may be given to the family, to be used for his grandchildren’s college funds.
