Obituary for Dolores Morrison

Dolores Agnes Morrison, age 92, passed away peacefully May 3, 2022 at Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville Illinois.

She was born January 29, 1930 in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of the late John and Beatrice Henkhaus of Bethalto, Illinois. She married Robert L. Morrison on June 28, 1952. Robert, the love of her life, preceded her in death on February 21, 2021. They were married 67 years, their love and devotion to one another was inspiring.

Dolores was a loving, caring mother to 6 children, Rebecca (Dale) Claussen, Mary (Matt) Kavanagh, Daniel (Kathy) Morrison, Patricia (Mark) Wilhelm, Timothy (Lori) Morrison, and David Morrison. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth Claussen, Alexander Claussen, Daniel Kavanagh, Christopher Kavanagh, Kathleen Morrison Meyer, Ellen Morrison Klahn, Abigail Wilhelm Williamson, Emma Wilhelm, Benjamin Wilhelm, Kelsey Morrison, and Jack Morrison, and 5 great grandchildren. Dolores was also preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters, Florence Stutz, Ralph Henkhaus, Maurice Henkhaus, Irene Walters, Kenneth Henkhaus, Margaret McConnell, Joseph Henkhaus, and Robert Henkhaus.

There is a hymn called, "Gentle Woman,” which describes our mother. She was a person of great faith, strength, intellect, and kindness. Dolores attended Milliken University and worked at Wood River Bank before becoming a devoted and selfless wife and mother. She was a talented cook, known for her homemade desserts. She was a member of Saint Bernard's Catholic Church, Wood River, actively involved with the Daughters of Isabella and the PTA. After moving to Edwardsville, she became a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. As an empty nester, Dolores volunteered at Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Alton, Illinois, enjoyed playing bridge with friends and traveling extensively with “Cherry,” her cherished husband, meeting many new friends along the way.

Her family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Stillwater Senior Living, Memory Care, and Family Hospice of Belleville. Their care was truly exceptional!

In celebration of Dolores’ life, a funeral mass will be celebrated at a future date at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Edwardsville, Illinois with Father Robert Jallas officiating. A private burial will follow at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Alton, Illinois.
