Obituary for Donald H. Reaka

Donald H. Reaka of Glen Carbon, Illinois died at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at his residence with his family by his side. He was 82 years old.

He was born on July 10, 1940 in Belleville, Illinois, the son of the late Byron and Cornelia (Muelchi) Reaka. Don married Kay Ann Schwehr on April 9, 1960, in Highland, Illinois. She survives.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons: Dave (Lynne) Reaka of Collinsville, Tim (Jill) Reaka of Highland, Mark (Amy) Reaka of Dupo, Dan (Andrea) Reaka of Edwardsville and Lenny (Kristi) Reaka of Highland; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Dean (Joan) Reaka of Troy, Missouri and David “Bugs” (the late Beatrice) Reaka of Belleville, Illinois.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Dean Reaka and a brother, Dale “Jake” (the late Ianza) Reaka.

He was a member of Cement Masons Local 90 for 60 years and a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Grantfork, Illinois where he served as Chief for a few years. In his retirement, he enjoyed helping his family with various construction projects. He had many hobbies including photography, volunteering for the Madison County Historical Society, and playing Jass with family and friends.

According to his wishes, his remains will be cremated. No funeral service will be held; instead, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 12pm – 4pm at The Studio at Olde Towne Square (60 School St., Glen Carbon, IL 62034 - next to The Wooden Nickel).
