Obituary for Earl L. Vernon
Earl L. Vernon, Jr., age 71, of Belleville, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.
He was born May 28, 1948 in Bellefontaine, OH, the son of the late Earl L. and Mary Ellen (Doty) Vernon, Sr. He married Cathy Bishop October 2, 1969 in Thackery, OH. She survives.
Also surviving are three children: Tammy (Tim) Lovell of Gilbert, SC, Tina (Sheila) Vernon of Belleville, IL, and Tonya (Scott) Daniels of Miami, FL; four grandchildren: Brittany Belt, Kayla Jones, Noah Vernon and Tiana Vernon; two great-grandchildren: Tyler Belt and Zoey Jones; and two siblings: Dennis (Beverly) Vernon of Wapakoneta, OH and Mary Ann (Pastora) Vernon of Atlanta, GA.
Mr. Vernon retired from the US Air Force in 1994 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he worked as an over the road truck driver. Throughout his life he loved spending time in his wood working shop, building and racing his RC cars at Maryville RC raceway, Bowling, playing cards and spending time with his family.
A memorial service will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at First Baptist Church, 8307 IL 160, New Baden IL. Burial of his cremated remains will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Memorials may be given to the family.
