Edward R. Hanson, age 75, of Edwardsville, died Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

He was born January 13, 1943 in Norfolk, VA, the son of the late Edward L. and Helen (Coon) Hanson. He married Wallis M. Bevan. She preceded him in death. He later married Nancy M. Wegner (nee Toms) and is survived by her.

Ed is also survived by a son, Eric (Cathy) Hanson of Myersville, MD; seven step-children: Phillip (Susan) Wegner of Gainseville, FL, Paul (Monica) Wegner of Atlanta, GA, Cynthia Morgan of Three Rivers, CA, Christine (Randal) Gee of Oxnard, CA, David (Cheryl) Wegner of Lancaster, CA, Stephen Wegner of Collinsville, IL, and Daniel (Donna) Wegner of Maryille, IL;19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way; and a step-brother, Wayne Force.

Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a step-brother, Neil Force.

Ed was retired from Amstead Industries in Granite City, where he worked as an engineer and later returned as a private consulant. He was a long-time member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. Ed loved to travel, visiting almost all 50 states and several European countries. He also loved being home on the lake; swimming, working on projects around the house, and taking sunset boat rides with Nancy. Ed loved to build and create, was an avid skier, and also loved trains. He was a dedicated family man, and will be deeply missed by his large family and many others whose lives he touched.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 at the church with the Very Reverend Jeff Goeckner officiating. Following the mass, his remains will be cremated.
