Eleanore Didriksen (1928-2022)

(Edwardsville, IL) Eleanore Ann Hoepli Didriksen (Ellie), 94, died July 3, 2022, at a local healthcare facility. She was born May 1, 1928 in Zurich, Switzerland to Max and Francis Louise Mead Hoepli. She lived in Zurich and Paris, France until she was 9, when the family moved to New York City. She graduated from Nightingale-Bamford School in New York and then graduated from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. Ellie met the love of her life, Caleb H. Didriksen, Jr., when he escorted her to a dance at the request of their parents. They were married on April 19, 1952, in New Hope, Pennsylvania, and were together in love and life until he predeceased her in February, 2009.

During their 56+ years of marriage they lived in Pittsburgh, Shaker Heights, OH, Belmont, MA, Winnetka, IL, Wellesley, MA, New Hope, Pennsylvania and Edwardsville. Ellie was an expert at knitting, crochet, needlepoint, and she was also a talented seamstress. She was a proud co-owner of the Village Knit Shop in Winnetka, Illinois for almost 10 years. Upon relocation to MA, she worked for over 20 years in the circulation department of the Wellesley Free Library. After retiring, Ellie and Caleb loved to travel, visiting such interesting places as Egypt, Thailand, Madeira, and the Carribean.

Through the years, she volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, worked with PTA chapters, and was a choir and altar guild member, and mission trip volunteer for Episcopal Churches to which they belonged. Most recently, she was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Edwardsville.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Hoepli, and her grandson Spencer Didriksen.

Ellie leaves her beloved four children: Deirdra (Scott) Killgore, St. Joseph, MO, Caleb Didriksen, New Orleans, LA, Nancy (Mark) Buckley, Scituate, MA, and Lizbeth (Jeff Watson) Didriksen, Edwardsville, eleven grandchildren, two great-grandsons, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friend Lisa Henry.

The family extends special thanks to Vitas Hospice Care and the staff of Meridian Village.

Her Memorial Service will be held at Meridian Village, Glen Carbon, IL, Sunday, July 31st, 2:00PM, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, the Public Broadcasting Service or a charity of the donor’s choice.
