Gerald W. Nagel, age 87, of Highland, died at 8:05 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at his residence.

He was born June 6, 1933 in Highland, the son of the late Lawrence and Edna Nagel. He married Doris Schmitt June 28, 1955. She survives.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two children: Geraldine (Greg) Wessel of St. Jacob and Curt (Jenny) Nagel of Collinsville; five grandchildren: Mike (Carey) Wessel, Beverly (Mike) Bass, Timothy Nagel, Christopher (Ashley) Nagel and Katelynn (Justin) Heavilon; and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his beloved basset hound, Dixie.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Nagel worked as a Laborer and was a member of Local 44 in Collinsville. In his free time, he was an avid fisherman. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church in St. Jacob, Illinois, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in College Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
