Obituary for Gordon Schwab
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Irvin Schwab of Edwardsville, Illinois at the age of 78. Gordon passed at his home on October 30, 2021, surrounded by his family.
Gordon was a beloved husband and best friend to his wife of nearly 60 years, Connie S. Schwab, and a loving father to his daughters, Lisa S. Ruesch and Kristi L. Real, as well as his son-in-law, Thomas F. Real. In addition, Gordon was a devoted and proud grandfather to his five grandchildren, Taylor K. Real, Connor T. Real, Austin T. Ruesch, Bailey N. Ruesch, and Mitchell R. Real.
Gordon was also a generous friend cherished by many. Gordon worked on the railroad, Norfolk Southern, with many of his friends for 34 years and until he retired in 2005. After retiring, Gordon enjoyed dancing with his wife, spending time with family and friends, and managing his rental properties located in the Edwardsville area.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Iona Schwab. Known for enjoying Elvis Presley’s song, “My Way,” Gordon will be remembered for his independence, strength, and loyalty to his family and friends.
We hope all family and friends will join us for a visitation at St. Boniface Catholic Church on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Although our hearts are heavy, in keeping with Gordon’s wishes, all family and friends are invited to join us for a celebration of life at St. Boniface Catholic Church, which will follow the service from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
