Irene Helf, nee Tompkins, age 82, of O'Fallon, died Friday, December 23, 2016 at her residence. She was born Jaunuary 6, 1934 in Medford, MA, the daughter of the late Vaughn and Violet (Simmons) Tompkins. She married Stewart Helf September 25, 1954. He preceded her in death January 10, 2012.

Surviving are four children: Allan R. (Dorothy) Helf of Brooksville, FL, Randy E. Helf of O'Fallon, Linda F. (Jeff) Crable of Stuart, FL, and Ronald F. (Ivanova) Helf of O'Fallon; five grandchildren: Charles S. Helf, Benjamin C. Helf, Heidi Elzas, Melissa Crable and Catrina Crable; two great-grandchildren: Greyson Elzas and Ebbrie Elzas; one brother, Vaughn "Red" (Margaret) Tompkins of Tewksbury, MA; and two sisters: Carol (Eddie) Gardner of California and Lois Stevens of Maine.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Tompkins; and a brother-in-law, Tom Stevens.

Visitation will be from 10-11:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Kalmer Memorial Services, located on Rt. 50 between Lebanon and O'Fallon. Funeral services will start at 11:15 a.m., followed by a burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
