Obituary for James F. Scrivener

James (Jim) F. Scrivener, 74, of Highland, formerly of Colchester, IL, went to be with his heavenly father at 12:13 p.m. on January 17, 2021 at his home.

Jim was born June 27, 1946 in Kansas City, MO to Ova and Carol (Hopkins) Scrivener. He married Lena Carden on July 11, 1970 in Detroit, MI.

Jim is survived by his wife, Lena; daughter Penny Lynn (Mike); and grandchildren: Riley of Troy, IL, Andrew, Austin, Rebecca and Reece of Highland; as well as his siblings: Barbara Green of Greenwood, MO, Jack (Pat) of Milwaukee, OR and John (Diana) of St. Cloud, FL; and many nieces and nephews in North Carolina, Michigan, New York, Illinois and Missouri.

Jim served in the US Navy for seven years and the US Air Force for thirteen years. He served on the USS LaSalle during the Persian Gulf War. After retiring from the service, he moved to Colchester, IL and worked in IT at Western Illinois University for seventeen years.

Jim was an Eagle Scout and spent summer sessions at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation in Osceola, MO. He was also and active member in the Macomb and Colchester local scout troops.

He really enjoyed his grandchildren and showing them woodworking, shooting and gun safety, and also enjoyed the great outdoors. He enjoyed wood carving and did Peyote Indian beadwork in the winters. He was a member of H.O.G and enjoyed riding the many Harleys he owned. He was a member of the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution), National Rifle Assn. and Military Officers Association of America. He was also a member of the Colchester United Methodist Church in Colchester, IL.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb, IL, Pastor Jim Clayton will officiate.
