Obituary for John D. "J.D" Burnett
John D. “J.D.” Burnett, age 65, of Fairview Heights, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon, IL.
He was born June 23, 1955 in Cairo, IL, the son of the late John M. and Freda (Dickerson) Burnett. He married Sharon (Barks) May 14, 1977. She survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Dawn (Marc) Diaz of Fairview Heights; one grandchild, Lucille Diaz; and four siblings: Jack Harvell of Florida, Connie Mayes of Anna, IL, Mike Winn of Godfrey and Mike Swoboda of Texas.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings: Carol Winn, Eugene Winn, Charlie Winn and Edna Ruth Kinder.
John was the owner of S & J Quality Services, and was a well-known local musician. He started playing professionally at 12 years of age and has played all around St. Louis and the metro area. He played lead guitar, bass, banjo, keyboards, and drums. He also was a lead singer with a wide variety of songs.
John was member of Elks Lodge 664 and loved working with his lodge brothers raising money for different charities.
He was a wonderful husband, father, and Papa that loved his family unconditionally. He absolutely adored his daughter and granddaughter and would do anything for them.
John was very active in the rescue farm listed below and loved helping all the animals taken in. He also helped with the therapeutic riding for all the various forms of disabilities that were offered. He loved working with the kids.
He was our rock and we relied on him for his knowledge and handy man skills. He could fix just about anything or tell you how to do it. He encouraged us to reach for the stars and nothing was impossible.
Words cannot express the emptiness we have in our hearts. We love you J D. and till we meet again, "Go Rest High On That Mountain, Your Work Here On Earth Is Done."
