Obituary for John E. Charlton
Lt. Col. John E. Charlton (USAF, Ret.), age 82, of O’Fallon, IL, passed away peacefully at 2:28 a.m. Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Colonnade Senior Living Center in O’Fallon.
He was born August 9, 1936 in San Diego, CA, the son of the late John V. and Gunna Heckla (Arnason) Charlton. He married Mary Ellen Knapp July 3, 1955. She preceded him in death April 17, 2014.
Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Charlton was preceded in death by a son, John Gates Charlton; and a brother, Robert James Charlton.
Surviving are two daughters: Cathy (Charles) Griffin of San Antonio, TX and Dana (Nick) Palovcsik of O’Fallon; seven grandchildren: Tasha (Cea) Adams, Tiffany (Dwayne) Debrow, Tenisha (DJ) Smith, John (Julie) Charlton, Michelle (James) Martin, Michael Palovcsik and Brandon Palovcsik; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Burial with full military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
