John Edward Hines passed away in Saint Louis on October 28, 2019, at the age of 90 and joined his beloved wife of 43 years, Anne E. (Forsberg) Hines, who preceded him in eternal life on October 5, 2015. John was born on August 21, 1929 in Lynn, MA to Michael John Hines and Barbara (Hoppe) Hines.
He is survived by his sister Anna Clark of Kailua Kona, HI, his children, Kathleen Craven Dyche (David) of TheWoodlands,TX, Barbara Melton (Stephen) of St. Louis, MO, Dorothy Leone(Joseph Picchione) of Riverside, RI, and Michael Hines of Baltimore, MD, and his step children, Jenifer Borg (Andy Kretzer) of Arnoldsville, GA, Peter Borg (Kim) of Lithia, FL, and Susan Borg of Annapolis, MD. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Leslie Chamblee, Laura Gabelsberg, Jackie Golden, Peter Borg, Rosemary Melton Ziegler, Carrie Kretzer, and Rae Marie Kretzer, two nephews, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, James Hines, Thomas Hines, Harold Currier, Albert Currier, and Raymond Currier.
Mr. Hines was an electronics instructor with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, earning his degree at the New Hampshire Technical Institute and continuing his education throughout his working life. He spent 15 years in technical positions with Westinghouse in MD, worked in a joint venture with Electronic Marketing Associates where he invented an innovative device for curing instruments, and retired from John Fluke Manufacturing in NJ, after over two decades as Regional Program Manager.
Besides his career, John loved National Parks, photography, gardening, building almost anything, tennis and sailing. A creative man with an engaging smile, he is best remembered for his Irish caps, dry humor and quick wit.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 990 LaGrange, West Roxbury, MA.
