Obituary for Keith G Sedlacek

Keith George Sedlacek, 70, of Edwardsville, IL was called home peacefully on Saturday, January 8th, 2022, surrounded by his family.

A stranger to few and a Samaritan to many, he was the epitome of selflessness, fulfilling a remarkable life of unwavering service and sacrifice. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he fought valiantly in the Americal Division on the front lines of the Vietnam War. During the conflict, his patriotism and valor garnered commendations of a bronze star and purple heart among others. That heroic dedication, discipline and honor was evident in all that he did and every life he touched.

Followed by a 25-year career with Shell Oil Company, several years of contract work with ConocoPhillips/Phillips 66, and eight years with Cassens and Sons in Edwardsville, his methodical approach and meticulous attention-to-detail were his calling card and cornerstone for success with every job, project or ask – a reputation that earned the respect of all who worked with him and knew him. He was a loyal and loving husband, devoted father and grandpa, admired son-in-law, brother-in-law, father-in-law, cousin, uncle and friend.

In the simplest of terms, he was a simple man, who’s life and genuine nature were a model for the way every human being should aspire to live. And although his absence will linger, his patience, wisdom and loving example forged an indelible legacy that will endure through generations.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Linda (Eberhart), cherished son Brian (Courtney) and daughter Shawna McMichael (Ryan), admiring grandchildren, Chase, Mira, Max, Cooper and Brody. He was preceded in heaven by his parents George Rudolph “Pep” and Norma Sedlacek of Glen Carbon, and a brother, Kurt Sedlacek.

A private burial service will be held at a date to be determined, with interment at Friedens Cemetery in Troy, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Giving Veterans Hope, 5268 Millennium Ct., Edwardsville, IL 62025, or online via PayPal at givingveteranshope.com/contributions.
