Obituary for Lewis Jean "Lewie" Deutschmann

Lewis Jean “Lewie” Deutschmann, age 66, of New Baden, died at 8:11 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was born February 6, 1952 in Highland, IL, the son of the late Clarence and Mildred (Haar) Deutschmann. He married Donna Davidson February 28, 1976 in Belleville, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are two children: Patricia Deutschmann of New Baden and Bryan (Geneva) Deutschmann of Belleville; three grandchildren (Lewie’s Angels): Haley Haas, Emma Deutschmann and Miranda Deutschmann; two brothers: Ronald Deutschmann of New Baden and Daniel (Charlotte) Deutschmann of New Baden; and his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Dennis Davidson, Dianne Davidson and Debora Wodsedalek, all of Millstadt, IL and Dee (Edgar) Brockhann of Lebanon.

Besides his parents, Lewie was preceded in death by two infant sisters: Ramona and Loretta; one sister-in-law, JoAnn Deutschmann; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Irene Davidson.

Lewie was a 1970 graduate of Mater Dei High School. He was a 45 year member of Laborer’s Local 742 in Mascoutah, and was a very active member of the New Baden Knights of Columbus, Council 10311, serving as Past Grand Knight and Financial Secretary. He also was a Fourth Degree member and Past Faithful Navigator of Bishop Althoff Assembly 193.

His memberships also included New Baden PTO, Past New Baden Scout Leader, Past Clinton County Red Cross Chairman, Past New Baden Fire Department , Emergency Services Director, New Baden EMT and Southwestern Illinois Fire Fighters Assn (SWIFA). His hobbies included gardening, wood working, and spending time with his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family.

According to his wishes, his remains will be cremated and no services will be held.
