Obituary for Louis "LJ" Harms

Louis Joseph (LJ) Harms, age 78 of Trenton, Illinois passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Trenton Village, Trenton Illinois. LJ was born on July 22, 1944 in Belleville, Illinois to the late Joe and Jessie (nee Haas) Harms.

LJ married Beatrice (Bonnie) Harms nee Gross, December 21st, 1991 in Lebanon, Illinois. She survives.

Besides his wife, LJ is survived by his sons Tom (Beth Myers) Harms and Jason Harms. Step-children: Brenda (Gary Crawford) Wagner, Greg (Lisa) Frerking, Teresa (Dan) Hutti and Debbie (Patrick) Jones. Grandchildren: Grace, Christian and Emma Harms. Step-grandchildren: Brandon (Hailey) Wagner, Lauren (Mark) Smith, Danny (Claire) Hutti, Emily Hutti, Ellen Hutti, Kate Frerking and Will Frerking and six step-great grandchildren. LJ is also survived by his sister Gloria (Ron) Schubert and nieces Angie (Pat) McVey and Nancy (Rich) Henss and several great nephews and a niece and many loving friends.

LJ was a graduate of Lebanon High School and Mckendree College earning his degree in Business Administration. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Lebanon, Illinois. LJ was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He retired from Pet Dairy in O’Fallon, Illinois. He and Bonnie enjoyed traveling throughout their marriage. He was an avid car buff and enjoyed any type of vehicles especially Fords and Harley Davidsons. And he enjoyed working on his family property.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Staff of Trenton Village for the love and compassion they showed to LJ and the family in his final years.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28th, 2023 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lebanon. The funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Todd Bean officiating. Interment will be held at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Fairview Heights, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
