Obituary for Mary Kay Way (Sullivan)

Mary Kay Way (Mary Catherine Sullivan), beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, drew her last breath February 11, 2022. She was born January 09, 1948, in East St. Louis, the daughter of Donald and Patricia “Beiter” Sullivan.

Mary Kay loved her work in tourism, while traveling she made so many dear friends. While raising her four kids she created lifelong friendships.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Donnie Sullivan, and son-in-law Robert Hansen. Surviving are her children; son Jason Way, Glen Carbon IL, and his wife Susan and their children Zachary and Paige; son Scott Way, Belleville IL, and his children Matthew and Sullivan; daughter Shannon Hansen, Lebanon IL, and her children Matthias and Maiya; and daughter Erin Grider-Way, O’Fallon IL, and her husband Alan and their children Dorothy, Mark Liam, Patricia, Lorelai, and Kaiden; and two sisters Peggy Stimson and Ginnie Loyet; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration will be held in her honor at Holy Trinity parish hall in Fairview Heights, IL on March 26th at 5:30pm.

Mom never met a stranger, and anyone that has met her was better for it. She was an adored mother and grandmother above all else, but she was also a sister, a friend, a companion, and a mentor to so many. She never hid the love she had for people and that's why she got so much love in return. Alzheimer's disease is a brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and, eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks, but she was never without a smile. She always had a great story to share about family, friends, and travel. She was taken too soon but will never be forgotten. Donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association act.alz.org
