Obituary for Mary Lynn Vuagniaux

Mary Lynn Vuagniaux, our dear sister, was released into the arms of Christ the Lord on Wednesday, March 15th. Born May 31, 1954 to Arlene and Earl Vuagniaux, Mary is the eldest of 14 children. She was a tough and determined big sister whose life had many hardships, including the loss of Arlene at age 8, and a brain tumor discovered the following year.

Mary was the bravest girl we knew, for despite her limitations she led a full life and developed her many talents: playing piano and guitar, singing, drawing, writing poetry. She attended St. Boniface Elementary, EJHS and two years at EHS before transferring to St. Mary’s Academy in Nauvoo, Illinois. Mary studied at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, and completed her Associate Degree from Lewis & Clark Community College, with continued education at SIUE.

Mary lived independently in Alton, Illinois for most of her adult life, attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and worked for McDonald’s for 19 years. She adored her cats, Lady Beth and Cocoa Baby—her greatest delights. Throughout her life, Mary had many helpers, teachers and advocates, including her grandparents, her father Earl and mother Genie, and Aunt Judy and Uncle Paul from Texas. In her last years Mary was lovingly assisted by her sister Sandy to find the best care available.

Mary Lynn was predeceased by mother Arlene (Schoenleber) Vuagniaux, grandparents Waldo and Bertha (Frey) Vuagniaux, and father Earl Louis Vuagniaux. Surviving family include mother, Genie and siblings Cindy, Sandy, Theresa, Michael, Angela, Gabriel, Brett, Thad, Nicole, André, Nathan, Benjamin, and Beau Vuagniaux, as well as Aunt Judy (Vuagniaux), Uncle Paul Golliher and all our ‘Texas cousins.’

A private funeral mass for Mary will be conducted at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. Donations may be made “In Memory of Mary Lynn Vuagniaux” to Grandview Healthcare Center, 201 Grand Ave., Washington, MO 63090 (www.grandviewhealthcare.com) or to the St. Animal Pet Adoption, 3626 St. Gregory Ln, St. Ann, MO 63074 (sapamo.org).
