Obituary for Norma Jean Settles (Daugherty)

Norma Jean (Daugherty) Settles was born on October 29, 1947, in Litchfield, Illinois, to Edna and Roy Daugherty. She attended Gillespie High School and married Kenneth L Settles on December 8, 1964.

Norma went on to get her cosmetology license in 1978 and spent many years enjoying the company of her clients. Norma was a vibrant, active, loving woman that enjoyed anything and everything outdoors. She spent her adult life caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren always putting others before herself. She loved exercising and made sure she was “50 and fit” with her in-home gym and morning workouts featuring her stair master and her work out routines with Denise Austin. She loved spending her free time at the lake, and those who remember her will remember her speakers and country music playing at the lake lot, and her on her and Ken’s bass tracker and eventually pontoon boat.

Norma and Ken had an amazing garden and never failed to have a line for tomatoes and grandbabies snapping peas in the kitchen during the summer. She loved traveling and being a snowbird in Arizona, the desert, and wide-open spaces. She did not enjoy the cold Illinois winters. In the end, her life’s goals were complete. She traveled, loved her family with everything that she had, was a wonderful mother, Nana, friend, and first and foremost wife. She was deeply loved and will forever be missed by those who love her. The family now has peace knowing that Papa has his Juliet back and Nana is finally reunited with her Romeo.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Settles; mother and father, Edna and Roy Daugherty; and sister and brothers Loretta, Roy and Larry. She is survived by her three children: Karen Ulery (Jonathan), Angie Pulliam (Donald), and Kenneth Settles Jr. (Kasey); grandchildren: Ashley (Lance), Craig, Holly, Jeffrey (Lakisi), Kelcey, Trey, Zachary, Alexis, Beau, Colin, and Claire; and her great-grandchildren: Dominic, Deacon, Addison, Ashtyn, Finley, Willow, and Oliver.

A private memorial service will be held.
