Obituary for Peter McConnel Soule

Peter McConnel Soule, age 58, died November 30, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon, IL after a brief illness.

Peter was the second son of Harriette (McConnel) Soule (deceased) and Craig W. Soule. He attended Blackhawk High School in Beaver Falls, PA, where he was a key player on the soccer team. Peter earned his B.S. in Logistics Management from Robert Morris College. He then embarked on a career as a civilian in the US Army, where he spent 25 years in dedicated service to the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC), achieving the level of a GS-13 officer. This took him to Fort Eustis, Virginia; Stuttgart, Germany; and lastly, Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. While in Germany, he served with distinction as the Liaison Officer for AFRICOM and EUCOM. In addition, Peter received numerous commendations for his outstanding work ethic and professionalism. His colleagues appreciated his wisdom, knowing how best to maneuver to the next milestone, and his commitment to achieving the best operational outcomes.

To know Peter was to know that he was passionate about the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, often finding the local bar that carried all the games wherever he lived. He was a great friend and kind person, the likes of which you don’t find every day. Quick with a smile and a witty reply, Peter had a unique way of making people feel comfortable and cared for in all situations. He was always the one to say, “I’ll do whatever I can to help you.” Perhaps his most memorable quality, however, was his ability to create the perfect nickname for everyone he met, which inevitably was used by others as well. Whether he was coaching a youth soccer team or mowing a neighbor’s lawn, Pete was quick to help others because of his kind heart and warm disposition.

Peter is survived by his father, Craig W. (Donna) Soule of Windsor, CT; sister, Susan Blizzard of Glenwood Springs, CO; brother, David Soule of San Francisco, CA; step-sister, Anne Hutchinson of West Springfield, MA; step-brothers: Jay (Whiz) Hutchinson of Middletown, DE and Andrew (Lilian) Hutchinson of Windsor, CT. He is also survived by nephews Jack Hutchinson, Tobin (Toby) Blizzard, Porter Hutchinson, Gabriel Hutchinson, and niece Calista (Callie) Blizzard, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held in Michigan this summer.
