Ray Winter, age 95, of St. Jacob, passed away at 11:55 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. He was born June 14, 1923 in Prophetstown, IL, the son of the late Rev Louis and Della A. (Ellis) Winter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Lorraine (Ahlert) Winter who died April 7, 2010.

He is survived by his two daughters: Shelly (Rick) Agne of St. Jacob; Tammy (Mark) Pollo of St. Jacob, and three grandchildren: Clarissa (Loman) Bogard of Murray, KY, Kari Agne of Edwardsville and Blake Agne of St. Jacob; one great-grandchild, Reese Harper Bogard. He was so very proud of his grandkids and loved them all very dearly. They were his world.

The son of Methodist pastor Mr. Winter lived in many small towns in northern llinois until moving to St. Jacob in the 40's where he began fulfilling his dream of becoming a dairy farmer selling the highest quality milk to Sealtest then to Prairie Farms. He was also very proud to have driven a school bus for the Triad School District for 46 years often in the later years picking up the children of children he picked up when he first started driving.

He became an adopted grandpa to some , fondly known as Goober to others. a friend to many and Santa to countless kids through the years with the heartiest HO, HO, HO you've ever heard. He loved all his critters and never let a stray go hungry, thirsty or in need of shelter. He enjoyed watching the Cardinals & the Blues and loved mowing grass with his Walker mower. He was the best Dad, grandpa, & Pa Pa ever.

He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of St. Jacob, IL & Troy United Methodist Church in Troy, IL. He was a member of the Hollstien Association, the Madison County Farm Bureau & Mid-America Dairymen.

According to his wishes his remains will be cremated. A graveside service will be held at Keystone Cemetery in St. Jacob on Thursday October 11 at 11:00.

In lieu of flowers , memorial contributions may be made to the family for the establishment of a college fund for Reese Harper.
