Obituary for Robert J. "Grumpy Bob" Voegele

Robert "Grumpy Bob" Voegele, born in 1949 in Highland, IL to the late William and Florence Voegele, passed away early Friday morning, September 18, 2020.

In 1977, Robert married Cathy Malter, and together they raised two children, Bobbi and Raymond.

Robert farmed for many years in Marine, IL, and then later opened a small engine repair shop, B & C Equipment. He operated his shop in Maryville, IL where he served the community's small engine repair needs for nearly 25 years. Robert enjoyed working on small engines, prided himself on doing a job with excellence, and also in getting most repairs done within just a few days.

Later, he and his wife Cathy also opened an antique/collectibles shop (Fancy That! Collectibles and Antiques) at the same location, which they operated for nine years. Their son, Raymond, also operated NewFire Gaming, a video game store there during the same time. In 2014, they all blended their businesses together under one name, Grumpy Bob's Emporium, which the family continues to operate in Bob's loving memory still today. The shop, loved by many far and wide, continues to carry thousands of video games, movies, music, toys and more.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, William and Florence; four brothers: John Voegele, Bill Voegele, Francis Voegele and Ray Voegele; five sisters: Alice Belville, Kathleen Steward, Sandra Sheik, Josephine Voegele and Ann Webster.

Robert is survived by his wife Cathy; his children: Bobbi Johnston (Charles) of Troy, IL, Raymond Voegele (Amanda) of Maryville, IL; three grandchildren: Michael, Chloe and William; two sisters: Vera Daiber of Marine, IL and Rozann Sebor (Ron) of Newkirk, OK; plus numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

For visitation, friends may gather with the family from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2020 at Kalmer Memorial Service/Funeral Home at 8638 US-50, (between Lebanon and O’Fallon) The family asks that social distancing guidelines be observed.
