Russel C. Santel, age 74, of New Baden, died at 12:31 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2021 at his residence.
He was born August 7, 1946 in Highland, the son of the late James and Florence (Foppe) Santel. He married Ruth Wright July 27, 1968 in New Baden. She survives.
Also surviving are three children: Phillip Santel of New Baden, Richard (Keri) Santel of Carlyle and Diane Santel (special friend David Ohl) of New Baden; six grandchildren: Samantha Jolliff of Granite City, Russel T. Santel of Walnut Hill, IL, Dalton Steinhauer of New Baden, Piper Santel of New Baden, Kelli Santel of Aviston and Ronny Santel of Carlyle; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, June (Gary) Davis of Trenton; and a sister-in-law, Pat Wright of Belleville.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Santel; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Harold W. and Clara (Kleboldt) Wright; a brother-in-law, Harold A. Wright; Phillip’s fiancé Cynthia Steinhauer.
Russel worked as a laborer for local 742. He was a US Army veteran serving in Viet Nam and a member of St. George Catholic Church in New Baden.
He always enjoyed Sundays with his family. There are many fond memories of his friends especially his friend of 50 years and deer hunting buddy Fats, and the Tuesday and Thursday card playing group.
Burial of his cremated remains will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
A celebration of life will be held at the New Baden American Legion – Downstairs, on Saturday February 20th, 1PM-5PM.
