Obituary for Slavko Gregov
Slavko Gregov, age 86, of New Baden, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon.
He was born June 14, 1933 in Preko, Croatia, the son of the late Rudolf and Tomica (nee Lovric) Gregov. He was an incredibly devoted husband to Maria (nee Pott) Gregov whom he married on July 7, 1964 in Chicago.
In addition to his wife, Slavko is survived by four children: Steve Gregov of Chicago, Betty Gregov of New Baden, Maria (Bill) West of Waterloo, IL and Antonio Gregov of Ft. Collins, CO. He is the grandfather “Dido” of eight grandchildren: Benton (Monica) Gregov, Dominic (Krystal) Gregov, Katelyn Gregov, Ivana West, Therese West, Anya Gregov, Olivia Gregov and Mia Gregov; two great-grandchildren: Holden Gregov and Porter Gregov; one sister, Anna Heishler of Vienna, Austria; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Theresia Gregov; and six siblings: Drago Gregov, Ante Gregov, Miro Gregov, Ivo Gregov, Maria (nee Gregov) Lange and Margaretha Gregov.
Slavko loved to meet new people and share memories of his homeland, Croatia. He enjoyed fishing, watching nature, gardening, cooking, dancing with his wife, and spending time with his family. He will be most remembered for always having a plate of mostaccioli ready to share for anyone who came to visit.
The funeral service will be private. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden on March 26, 2020.
