Obituary for Suzanne Dietrich

Suzanne C. Dietrich, age 84, passed away on June 10, 2021, at Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville.
She was born in Granite City, IL, April 9, 1937 the daughter of Charles D. and Evelyn Waters Dietrich. Surviving are a brother, Charles W. “Chuck” Dietrich and a nephew, Charles M. Dietrich.
Suzanne earned an undergraduate degree in Radio, Television and Film from Northwestern University in Chicago as well as a Master’s Degree in Public Communications from Boston University. In addition to her academic achievements, Suzanne found time to compete in Ice Skating, earning several awards.

On returning to Edwardsville, Suzanne became very active in the community especially with St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Madison County Historical Society.

In 1999, Suzanne became the Director of the Madison County Historical Museum and Archival Library and served in that position until she retired in December 2016. She was responsible for many improvements to the facilities and services offered by the museum and library during her tenure.

Suzanne received numerous awards over the years including the Athena Award from the Chamber of Commerce for the “highest level of professional accomplishment” and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois State Historical Society (ISHS). She was also named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club and awarded a Preservation Award by the Goshen Preservation Alliance.

Visitation will be held Saturday, June 26, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Edwardsville, from 10 - 11 a.m. with a memorial Mass following at 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Edwardsville or the Madison County Historical Society.
