Obituary for Virginia "Gina" Bontempo-York (Bontempo)

A life well-lived ended for Virginia (Gina) Bontempo -York on January 27, 2021.

Born February 23, 1937 at City Hospital in St. Louis, MO to Chesre and Consolina (Buffo ) Bontempi, she grew up and lived in the same Collinsville neighborhood her entire life.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, where she was also active in school functions for three generations. It was here she found and held many life-long friends whom she treasured.

On October 6, 1956, she married James “Bud” York at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, starting their journey of love and adventure. Bud preceded her in death July 27, 2010, and is now, once again, joined with her.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Kay Malter and Kathy Hensley; her sons, Randy York and Steven York; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a great-greatgrandchild.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved great-granddaughter, Kristyn.
The legacy Gina and Bud leave incorporates lessons taught by example to the four generations they leave behind. Hard work, live your faith, help those less fortunate, education and have a sense of adventure. Explore the world either through books or travel- but get out there.

According to her wishes, there will be no public services.
