Obituary for Walter Lee Fulkerson Jr.

Walter Lee Fulkerson, Jr. was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on August 17, 1927, to Edna and Walter L. Fulkerson, Sr. He was the only son and attended Central High School. In October of 1946, Walter married Shirley MacLachlan at Bales Baptist Church in Kansas City where they both attended.

Walter had a love for mechanical things, had the patience of Job and could fix anything. He was a jet engine technician in both the Navy and the Air Force where he served his country for nearly 30 years. He is a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Being a military man, Walter moved his family frequently. He lived in five states, three foreign countries and developed a passion for travel. He visited all 50 states and over 46 foreign countries. After retiring, he and Shirley settled in Mesa, Arizona, where they lived for nearly 40 years.

With a servant heart, Walter stayed busy serving in his local church in various ministries and would spend weeks helping new churches from the ground up. He was a member of Cross Point Baptist Church in Arizona for over 14 years.

During his 91 years, Walter often spoke words of wisdom and encouragement to his children, grandchildren and to those seeking his guidance. His children honor him and continue to bless him today by following the Godly principles he taught at home.

In 2013, Walter lost Shirley, the love of his life. They enjoyed a marriage filled with love and respect for over 66 years. They were obedient to God’s command “to be fruitful and multiply”. Walter recently rejoined his beloved wife in heaven for eternity.

Walter is survived by his five children and their spouses: Roy (Edna), Paul (Jeanne), Karla (John), Glen
(Brenda), and Doria (Tim); 13-grandchildren, 21- great grandchildren, and 2-great great grandchildren.
Dad, we’re going to miss you!
