Obituary

William M. “Marty” Wilson, III, age 63, of Highland, passed away at 6:58 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2019 at his residence.

He was born February 21, 1956 in Jerseyville, IL, ths son of William M. “Bill” Wilson, II of Jerseyville, and the late June (Leckner) Wilson. He married Sue Hogg (Mersinger/Korte) August 12, 1983 in Edwardsville. She survives.

Besides his father and wife, Marty is survived by four children: Michael M. (Beth Rapoff) Wilson of St. Louis, Shawn A. (Shannon) Hogg of Highland, Shandy (Gerald) Klein of Glen Carbon and Shelby (Chad) Bartoszkiewicz of Edwardsville; nine grandchildren: Finn and Charlotte Wilson, Syler, Shayden and Sayde Hogg, Nathan and Joshua Klein, and Kira and Khloe Bartoszkiewicz; two sisters: Nancy (Larry) Loy of Jerseyville and Peggy (George) Osborn of Alabama; one brother, Mark (Rhonda) Wilson of Jerseyville; a sister-in-law, Diane Schwind of Glen Carbon; two brothers-in-law: David (Therese) Korte of Highland and David Schwind of Edwardsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife’s parents: Alfred “Al” and Felicitas (Mersinger) Korte and Lawrence and Delegene (Brendel) Mersinger.

Mr. Wilson went to West and East Jerseyville Community Grade School and graduated from Jerseyville Community High School in 1974. He worked for GTE (Verizon) for 9 ½ years as a construction splicer and maintenance splicer. In 1984 to the present he had his own businesses, Wilson’s Telephone Service and Wilson’s Cleaning Service. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, and was a member of the Highland Knights of Columbus since 1976. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He was very active with his children and grandchildren, softball, bowling, fishing and camping, and was an avid deer and turkey hunter.

Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. – 11;45 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2019 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland. The funeral mass will follow at noon with Rev. Pat Jakel officiating. According to his wishes, his remains will be cremated.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be given to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital (PICU/NICU) or to Unity Hospice of Greater St. Louis.

Was trying to text & call him & looked him out. So sad. He was the nicest most reliable guy. When he’d talk about his wife his eyes would sparkle & he obviously loved his kids & grandkids dearly. I’m so sorry for their loss. Praying for them.
