Wilma L. Vartanian, age 84, of Belleville, died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. She was born May 24, 1930 in Bardwell, KY, the daughter of the late Verble and Laura (Morgan) Sims. She married Leo Vartanian. He preceded her in death. She is survived by five children: Terry (fiance Patti Anderson) Vartanian of O'Fallon, IL, Cheryl (Danny) Frein of New Athens, IL, Dennis Vartanian of Fairview Heights, IL, Sam (fiance Vicky McMonagle) of Fairview Heights and Kent (Sarah) Vartanian of Caseyville, IL; six grandchildren: Danny Vartanian, Alex Vartanian, Jordan Vartanian, Jeff (Laura) Frein, Jessica Vartanian and Justin Vartanian; four great-grandchildren: Jacob Vartanian, Madeline Frein, Wyatt Frein, and Vivian Frien; three step-great-grandchildren: Robbie Cook, Isaac Cook and Zac Cook; one brother, Ben Sims of O'Fallon; and one sister, Freda Gossett of Waterloo.

Mrs. Vartanian worked for Bussman Fuse in St. Louis for 30 years and worked at Memorial Hospital in Belleville as a laundry attendant. She was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Kalmer Memorial Servies on Hwy 50 between Lebanon and O'Fallon. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in New Athens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
