Obituary for Charles R. Herring

Charles R. Herring, age 83, of Edwardsville, died Tuesday evening, May 2, 2018 at Hitz Nursing Home in Alhambra. He was born January 20, 1935 in East St. Louis, IL, the son of the late Paul and Pauline (Mifflin) Herring.

He married his wife, Helen (Voyles) in 1960 (she survives); also surviving are two children, Tamela Batch and Lisa (Jane) Ash and four grandchildren, John Batch, Emma Ash, Morgan Ash and Liam McGue. Also surviving is a sister, Betty Prader. Preceding him were also his siblings, Paul Herring, Dolly Cochran and Mike Herring.

Charlie grew up in East St. Louis and lived there until 1969, when he moved to St. Jacob, IL and started an antique business. He served in the US Army and while stationed in Lawton, OK, met his wife wife Helen. Eventually they moved to Greenville, running Herrings Antiques for over thirty years. He could be found most Saturday afternoons at local auctions, talking, drinking coffee and buying antiques.

The family is having a private service.
