John E.  Peter Jr.
John E. Peter, Jr., age 83, of Belleville, died January 4, 2018 at his residence. He was born March 10, 1934 in Swansea, IL, the son of the late John E. and Emma Flora (Burg) Peter, Sr.

Mr. Peter worked for Monsanto and for Afton Chemical, Sauget, IL, for many years before his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served as a medic in the 11th Airborne Division. He was an avid bowler, quite proud of his 300 game, and also an avid golfer. He spent many hours at Clinton Hills golf course and with his woodworking skills, made many benches, tee signs, and other items at the golf course.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Edwin Sr. and Emma Flora, nee Burg, Peter; four brothers, Kenneth Peter, Fern Peter, Francis Peter, and Ralph Jones; and two sisters, Evelyn Kaase and Verdell Busch.
Surviving are two daughters, Patti (Alan) Shields of Hendersonville, NC, Joan (Jerry) Muldowney of Chicago, IL; two step-daughters, Vickie (Joe) Klein of Overland Park, KS, and Nancy (Randy) Maggard of Sarasota, FL;
many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Ohnimus and Shirley Stewart; and nieces and nephews.

His remains will be cremated and interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date.
