Obituary for Kenneth J. Trebing

Kenneth J.  Trebing
Kenneth J. Trebing, age 85, of Edwardsville, died at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was born September 4, 1927 in Glen Carbon, the son of the late John C. and Beatrice (Slemmer) Trebing. He married Rae Lee Hoffman September 4, 1948. She survives. Also surviving are four sons: James R. (Melinda) Trebing, Daniel J. Trebing, and Kent M. (Gina) Trebing, all of Edwardsville and Randall R. (Nannette) Trebing of Collinsville; a daughter, Kathleen A. (Craig) Wheeler of Glide, Oregon; ten grandchildren: Cameron Hartness, Adam and Sarah Wheeler, Teresa (Michael) McBrien, Kerri (Manuel) Tyler, Sara, Shana, Gretchen, Noah, and Nadia Trebing; one great grandchild, Jaiden Kirk; two brothers: John F. (Marilyn) Trebing of Edwardsville and Ronald (Ethel) Trebing of St. Louis; and a sister, Betty Lindsey. He was preceded in death by one brother, John C. Trebing; a sister, Leona Morris; three brothers-in-law: Noel Morris, Benton Lindsey and James Hoffman; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Trebing; two nephews: Daryl and Donald Lindsey; and a niece, Darby Trebing.

Ken was a veteran of the US Navy, stationed in the Phillipines near the end of World War II. He was a carpenter by trade, working for several local contractors and was a 64 year member of the Carpenter's Local. In his earlier years, he was a Boy Scout Leader and manager of his sons' baseball teams. He also helped to build Hoppe Park and was the second individual to be awarded the Vanzo Trophy for "Friends of Little League". Ken was also an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the St. Vincent DePaul Society; and was a former member of the Edwardsville Knights of Columbus Council 1143 and the American Legion Post 199. For the last 32 years, he would be seen volunteering his time at the Glen-Ed Food Pantry.

Visitation will be from 3 - 6:30 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. A memorial mass will immediately follow. Memorials may be given to St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Alzheimer's Assn. or to the Glen-Ed Food Pantry.
