Marlene Louise  Engel (Von Hatten)
Marlene L. Engel, age 64, of Belleville, died at 1:27 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville. She was born July 17, 1949 in Breese, IL, the daughter of Joetta (Heldorfer) Von Hatten, whom survives in Aviston, and the late Wilbert W. Von Hatten. She married David Engel August 5, 1972. He survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Carla (John) Bouc of Belleville; six grandchildren: Emylia, Dominic, Caroline, Johanna, Eric and Juliette Bouc; two sisters: Carol (Donald) Engel of Phoenix, AZ and Diane (Stanley) Rakers of Aviston; and one brother, Gerard (Sharon) Von Hatten of Breese. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nichole Lynn Engel; and two brothers: Eric and Billy Joe Von Hatten.

Mrs. Engel was a 1967 graduate of Mater Dei High School in Breese. She was a licensed beautician for 30 years, working out of her home in Belleville. In 1999, Marlene graduated from Lutheran Medical School of Nursing in St. Louis, becoming a Registered Nurse at the age of 50. As a nurse, she worked at South Point Hospital in St. Louis and St. Paul's Home in Belleville. She was a very active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Belleville, where all services will be held.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Belleville and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at the church. A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Belleville. Memorials may be given to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
