Obituary for Paul Dean Hangsleben (Grumpy)

Paul Dean "Grumpy" Hangsleben, age 72, of O'Fallon, IL, passed away at 3:37 a.m. Friday, November 27, 2015 lovingly surrounded by his family at his home. He was born November 10, 1943 in Mascoutah, IL to Ernst and Louisa (Cast) Hangsleben.
Paul was a graduate of Mascoutah Community High School and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He worked in the Defense and Aerospace industry for 48 years, ending his career at Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX. He was a Vietnam-era United States Air Force veteran.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brothers: Robert and Richard Hangsleben.
He is survived by his childhood friend and wife of fifty years, Karen (Nelson) Hangsleben of O'Fallon, IL, whom he married at Bethel United Methodist Church in Mascoutah; his son, Mark (Sherri Lewis) Hangsleben of Edwardsville, IL; his daughter, Lesley (Kurt) Grady of Fairview Heights, IL; his grandchildren: Sarah and Lauren Hangsleben of Edwardsville, and Logan, Brennan and Rian Grady of Fairview Heights; a sister, Helen (Hangsleben) Cooley of New Haven, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul was a simple man, known affectionately as "Grumpy". At his humble request, there will be no visitation or public memorial but rather a private Celebration of Life with an inurnment at a later date in the Hangsleben family plot at Mascoutah City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the O'Fallon United Church of Christ Children's Music Ministry, 206 West Adams, O'Fallon, IL 62269 (www.ofallonucc.org) The family welcomes remembrances via email at the Kalmer Memorial Services website, www.kalmermemorialservices.com.
