Obituary for Terry A. Smith

Terry A.   Smith
Terry Smith, 72, of O’Fallon, Illinois, died peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2015 in his home with his loving family by his side.
Born December 16, 1942, in Michigan City, Indiana, Terry was the son of Dallas and Dorothy (Hanyzewski) Coomes. He is survived by his loving wife Christel; his son Michael Smith; his daughter Tanya Pyrdeck (Smith) and her husband Steven Pyrdeck ; grandchildren Kayla Smith, Kyle Smith, Connor Pyrdeck and Annika Pyrdeck. He is preceded in death by his father, mother and his granddaughter Nadia Pyrdeck.
Terry joined the United States Air Force in 1962. During his time in the military, he was stationed in Japan, Tennessee, Germany, Minnesota, Thailand, and Scott AFB. While in Germany, he met Christel, his loving wife of 45 years. He retired from active duty after 20 years of honorable service. Following his military career, he served 20 years of civil service before his retirement.
Terry will always be remembered for his unwavering and selfless devotion to his wife, family and friends. During his recreational time, he loved to entertain his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Opa”. He also enjoyed playing golf and listening to music. Our devoted husband, father and “Opa” will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Kalmer memorial Services, located on Rt. 50 between Lebanon and O'Fallon. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial of his ashes will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Memorial contributions may be given to Terry's grandchildren's education fund.
