It allows family and friends a place to re-visit, interact with each other, share and enhance this tribute for future generations. Charles Ray Brooks was the best father I could imagine. He never lied to me, never talked down to me. He loved me as an equal, as a person he was always willing to listen to, share sage advice with and watch some M.A.S.H. or a Blues hockey game with. He loved my mother, my brother, my kids and everyone he ever got to know. He was independant and strong willed, and he's the man I inherited my self-deprecation from. He never felt he was good enough, and he was always wrong about that. Nobody that met my father, be it a neighbor, a complete stranger on his many cruises, or even a waiter or cabin steward could walk away without feeling valued and appreciated. He saw great wisdom in the idea of investing time into people to learn their stories and who they were. His wisdom to me was manifold. He said, "Being an adult is wanting what you have, not having what you want." and he wanted everything he was gifted and he knew the value of the people, places and experiences he had in 78 years. Do not cry for him, he knew his time was due, and he went out tickling grandsons and hearing stories from granddaughters. Don't cry for us, either, because we got to bring him home and hear him laugh his last hours before he was gone. All the world that touched my father is better off for it, and he's home now. He told me, in his very last words, "I got a high five." That's was his life, a high five.
