That was Lois
Lois Andes had more blue and white in her kitchen in Richmond, Virginia than the sky above the earth. Everywhere you looked was crockery that was either all blue, or blue and white. And pretty blue and white plates. On Sundays, Kenneth and Lois would prepare a huge Sunday dinner, working in tandem like a well-oiled machine, for the sons, daughters, spouses and any children. The table would have a nice tablecloth, and all the pretty blue and white dishes would be there, with fresh flowers, and hearty fare. So thankful for that.
Lois Andes loved her son Vince Phillips. No, I mean really. I mean she would go to any lengths to help or be with him. Also, she would do anything to help April, her daughter, who loves her very much. But Lois went even to Farmville, Virginia, to a small hunting cabin and a big cleared space in the woods, where my husband and I had some land at one time. She would always cook for Vince there, no matter if the temp was 110 in the shade, she would cook a hot meal in her and Kenneth's superfine vintage trailer. And Kenneth and Lois traveled the 5 hours from Richmond to Farmville when Vince and I were stationed overseas, and cut the grass there. While this land was pretty in the fall, the three other seasons, it was a little trying, and in the summer, the bugs were so loud outside you couldn't even sleep, and it was so very hot and humid. But she believed in Vince having land in Virginia, and she did all she could to help that land be liveable. Now that I have a son, I see that a mother will go anywhere to be with him and help him in any way possible. But I will have to work very hard indeed to compare to Lois Andes.
